You should keep an open mind - don't ignore anyone until you have enough data that tells you that you should. Without more data on the markets you are targeting, the players you have, traffic sources etc, I can't really tell you anything more than what @AussieDave said - you'll need to A/B test...

Look at what other competitors in your niche are promoting - since you're starting a new site, I assume that you'll first be targeting some lower competition sub-niches - look at what other sites similar to yours are promoting, and start there.
