All Affiliates with forums - beware of a program out there called XRumer. XRumer is a program that spammers are using to automatically create a user and spam a forum.

Ways to detect if you could be a possible future victem of this software:

1. Check your web logs for google/yahoo/msn searches relating specifically to forum types:

Example: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=inurl%3Acasino+powered+by+smf&btnG=Google+Search

This says 'I want to find CASINO related forums that are using SMF forum software'

This is done typically to find a place to spam

2. Check for lots of new signups happening frequently (many even NOT posting)



The software will basically sign up, authorize, and post all automatically. Here is the information about XRumer and what it does:

Watch out - I was spammed A LOT by this software and continue to get about 20 new registers a day because of it.

Sounds like I was wrong about this software... The software used to spam one of my forums must've been something else besides XRumer.

Maybe a home-grown spamming software... It was spamming my forum about 10-40 times per day at one point.

Regardless, keep track of your logs and when you see something like above - realize it for what it might be. An attempt to find a forum with loopholes.
