Hi All,

We've received a press release from Global Gaming Affiliates, where they are announcing a new sick pay compensation initiative: affiliate partners will receive up to three months of a commission, based on an account’s last six months of earnings, if they are unable to work due to a serious illness or other event.
Their goal is to work closely with all their partners, giving them peace of mind in the event they are forced to take time off work.

This is obviously something completely new for the affiliate industry!
Do you think this decision is wise? Does this initiative have any chance of spreading among other affiliate programs?

This is a very unique and positive initiative. Global gaming are setting a great example and I hope more programs follow suit.

No.
And No.

An affiliate does not have to constantly work on one program in order to attract players & keep them playing.
I could stop work for 3 months & I doubt anything would change at all!

Don't get me wrong - I think it's GREAT for the affiliates and it would be wonderful if more did it, but from the operators viewpoint I think this is just silly.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to jump in here and say thanks for the feedback, I'm happy that we got to introduce this to our partners.

Our aim is to the strengthen the relationships between us and our affiliates. I made this decision based on feedback and comments over the years about programs being small affiliate friendly, and when other programs introduced quotas (for example), it was discussed what would happen in the scenario of an affiliate being sick/hit by a bus/etc and unable to work and would be moved down to 5% (example). So this initiative was introduced to put affiliates minds at ease, that if something did happen, we would do the opposite and look after them rather reduce commissions or close accounts.

Thanks,
Elaine

It's commendable but in practice the drop off, unless you're doing PPC or media buying, should be very insignificant over three months right? I know with the brands I work with that if I stopped sending traffic the next 3 months would still earn well across the board.

Anyway... not the point. I like the sentiment, WP.

I agree with the above here. The sentiment is nice, but the principal itself is not new. It's called retention.
