Hi,

I have a question, would love your opinions.

I have a Dutch website http://www.degokhemel.nl which should be mainly a blog.
But I find it hard to write new posts every day, so I have an average of 1 new post every two days.

Is this enough for a blog, or should I think about making it into a website (steady homepage) and a news/blog section for the latest news?

I would say making it into a website would be better for you, More content more results. But looks very nice though your blog.

Hi,

I agree with PaaskeUK. You are doing a great job on the blog. If you put a website on top of the blog, it should begin to draw in traffic over time.

Nice work!

Agreed, trying to just run a blog on 3 or so new posts a week, is counter productive. Add in static pages and these will start to rank not only for their content keywords but for their long tails etc etc over time.

Hi all, thanks for all the nice answers and compliments.

I have steady pages on this website, reviews, software information. But does google mainly look at the blog part when you have a blog and more on pages when you choose a steady homepage? Or does google always look at both?

I just noticed that traffic has been slow last couple of months, want to see what would help make it better.

If you want your website to rank for a specific set of keywords, I would suggest setting a page as your homepage. Because the blog structure always adds and removes articles, you might have an ongoing shuffle in google for your targeted keywords. If you keep only 1 page, you will always have the same title, H1, keyword density etc.

And the other disadvantageas a blog is, like you said, that you will always have to add new content so the users don't feel like they ended up on a deserted website (if you choose to show the publishing date of the posts).

I agree with others about having a set homepage, but I will add that I don't think you need 1 new post every single day. 2-3 per week consistently will provide solid update flow imo.

"But I find it hard to write new posts every day"

You don't need to write every day or week a new post on your blog. That's nonsense! If you have 1000 worthless posts on on your blog, with the same repeating content, then it will hurt you more then help you.

If you write one excellent article once a month, depending on your real 10 most important keyword phrases, with a real value for readers, then you will be surprised in the long run, because Google loves you, and that's a good thing, because I can't see these SEO crap sites without value for the readers anymore.

I respectfully disagree.... If you are a new site, you need to update content regularly (write new content). After awhile you can slow down (IMO). If you plan on having a 3 year until you make money, then you can post once a month and wait for Google to 'love' you :)

Just my opinion.

I like to go with a hybrid.

Front page has sales, tables, bonus list etc,

Below that you can have your article excerpts, with image (we love images), which links off to full article.

How many articles per week? 3-4 per week.
Juicy content rich content.

An article every 2 days is good. I don't have the patience to write articles anymore. I prefer to have someone else write them for me.

I would change the order you have things on the front page - The table of bonuses at the top, and hen below that excerpt of latest news, the Welcome below that

So like this from top of page to bottom of page.
[Table of Bonuses ] - I put this at the top because its important - its what customers will see first when they come to the page and will make you money
[Excerpt of Latest News ] - I put this here, so its near the top, of when your page loads, for SEO, Excerpt link to mail article.
[Welcome you currently have on top of website] - SEO Rich content about gambling in Netherlands.

This thread has some very good inputs for a new blogger and also for an old one. I must say that writing a quality article regularly makes more sense than writing average ones daily. In the end you need to be satisfied with what you have written and not write for the sake of writing.
