Serious question..

Do banners work anymore at all ? Do any forms or types of banners work ?

A well-placed banner works well. Banners competing with banners do not (IMO). When you have more than 2 banners on a page I find it to convert very poorly. This is my own experience, though, and others may disagree.

I would second the previous poster. If a site has a lot on advertising on each page I leave without looking at the ads or reading the content. That is why I don't understand affiliate sites which offer nothing more than a page full of ads and little to no content. What would bring someone to your site?

1 or 2 ads with good content will convert better as you usually use the better affiliate programs and the content ties in with the advertisement, both of which lead to better conversions.

What can you offer that the other sites don't?

Hello guys,

If i may add here some comments from my side.

Banners work provided certain criterion are met:

Location of the banner on each site
Banner itself and its good fit with the site in regards to
colours,
content/message,
size,
format,
impressions

Supporting actions further to banner also enhance conversions like text links, reviews, landing pages, etc

Regarding the issue of getting people to your site in the first place what do you use as your main attraction 247Livebet?

Your site is along the lines of what I was talking about versus nothing but banners like some sites I have seen advertised here in signatures.

Depending on how they're used they can still be effective - I often put them within content in a review page and/or at the end of the review, eg: www.footballbettingsites.org.uk/bookmakers/bet365.html

Same thing can be done for a roulette banner within an article about roulette etc...

Sticking banners that aren't specifically connected to the content all over the shop doesn't really work that well though, comparatively speaking.

How does my own site compare then ? Good banner placement or bad ?

societyofslots.com.

I know some banners arent direct content specific, but they are now geo-targeted.

I think your site looks very very good. I would be proud if I had a nice site like that. Banners do not seem to bother me but they take bit of notice anyway and looks good into the mix. That is IMHO though

That site looks very good. How do you get traffic to your site and stand out from the crowd?

It's a very good question!

I have always used animated banners on my sites, but have wondered if I might get better results with less, or static ones, or none at all.
I suppose the only way to find out would be change a whole site - that would be a LOT of work for a small experiment.

As a player myself I don't mind banners on affy sites as long as they're not TOO in-your-face. I use mostly small ones (120x60 or 125x125), and 468x60s only to highlight something specific - like a new game, a new casino, or a special bonus offer. I also NEVER use banners on their own - I always have some sort of content with them (even if sometimes very brief!)

I guess the bottom line is; you can't please all of the players all of the time...

It's all about the tracking - set up unique codes for your banners and then see exactly which positions work and which don't. What works on one site wont necessarily work on another either.

It was getting into adsense that really made me look at banners hard - I experiment constantly on my adsense sites switching positions and sizes.

I don't like banners so I am using them as less as possible, usually in middle or bottom of page. In my opinion if site have some clean template and without any banner it looks too sterile for casino industry. Regarding performance text links works best for me and only type of banners that I can recommend are live odds banners for betting sites.

Banners still have there place, but I'd certainly place importance on buttons and other call to actions nowadays.

Here is some research we did with one of our sites that got published on e-consultancy: econsultancy.com/uk/blog/10967-banners-buttons-and-text-links-an-experiment-in-conversion (can't post URL's yet).

Cheers!

Hello,

banners are as good as they are good.

It is always up to the designers of the affiliate programs. There are banners, you can only shake your head.

Haha don't we all :)

I resigned to the fact long ago that there is no such thing as a finished website.

haha that is the truth... I just told someone the other day that the more work I do, the more work I create for myself... Working only opens up room for more work.. Never ends!

As far as banners, I have never use them... I only use the casino logos on my sites.
