Georgia’s Ministry of Finance has revamped the "electronic registry of citizens" to comply with forthcoming amendments to the nation's gambling laws. Spearheaded by an executive order from the Prime Minister, the updated laws, effective July 1, entail stricter compliance regulations, barring individuals under 25 and those with criminal records or government affiliations from gambling. The overhaul, overseen by the Revenue Office of the Ministry of Finance, aims to centralize tracking of citizens' gambling activities, with over 1.5 million individuals already listed in the registry.
Additionally, the government is tightening oversight of gambling operations, imposing fines on businesses failing to cross-reference client databases and raising revenue taxes from 10% to 15%. The Prime Minister has also proposed increasing the tax on client gains from 2% to 5%, reflecting the government's efforts to regulate the burgeoning gambling sector amidst increasing turnover.
