I just read of a new warning Google will be giving out when they detect a site to be either engaged in artificial link practices (ie link selling) as well as when a site has been hijacked. I think this is a great step towards transparency and should help webmasters keep better relations with Google.

For more information on where I read this:

I say this posting in another forum that I read.
I agree with you...
This is a good step to help keep the honest webmasters in good shape in the search engines as well.

intersting

it will definitely be intersting to see how (if) the top spots on the SERPs change after the introduction of this but al least now you'll be getting a warning instead of just crashing you.

I got a warning on a site that is 4 years old , we have not worked on it for 3 years and we sold 3 links on it to a guy in top 10 of google.I have bought zero links for this site ,it is one of these sites you forget you even own .So I think google is targeting 'known link buyers' and sending warnings to the sellers of the links.Obviously I removed the three links..they expired in 2009 anyway .I have a mini network of sites that link back to my own sites but i make sure they are all listed in webmaster tools so Google can see I am linking back to my own sites and all sites are gambling related.IMO content is going to be more important now .I would like to see Google get rid of all these dropped domains ranking for keywords like online casino and online casinos .They are all linking to c-planet , best casino partners or Europartners.I think maybe their outsourced SEO is using these practices. In 2010 i reported 54 of these domains to google but every day they add new ones.
