Google has confirmed 3 days ago that it made a “small” algorithm update to its search ranking system this past week. Check the site called searchengineland. You will find more info about it.

Small my ass! One of my websites that took a big hit on August update got tanked again after being fully recovered.

I can not understand those updates anymore and from what I have seen on the SEO forums seems that all the gurus are clueless.

If I were you, I would make a big check up to my site..

Try to find out if you have any toxic back links and if you find, erase them or disallow them.
Check if there are other sites that copied your content.. If yes, take action.
Check your mobile site and see if its compatible..
Check the site speed..
Check out the date that your rankings and traffic started to drop down from Google Analytics, see what are the landing pages that are dropped and investigate the reasons.. Etc etc.....

I know it's quite frustrating but I think if you dig enough, you can solve the issue and get back rankings.

This update from Google would explain September being a relatively weak month.

The "medic update" in August hit one of my health sites slightly, but improved my casino ones. The recent update hit my casino sites but DAMN my health sites sky-rocketed haha.

Generally all the updates you see nowadays are centered around improving quality of your content and user behaviour. Check your analytics like the dude said above and see if certain pages with high bounce/low session time are hit worse. Also follow up whether its landing page with plenty of CTA's vs. informative pages.

Have you seen correlation between high bounce rate and declining traffic or low session time and declining traffic on a specific page by page level?
