I just can't understand how casino and poker affiliate business make money these days? First, there are so many of them, really so many....!!!!! And then in the last two years google hit hard with penguin and panda updates making search rankings decent results very hard to achieve since it seems to have introduced a big element of randomness.

So essentially my questions is how do you compete in this random world? I've tried doing youtube and facebook marketing but it doesn't compensate for any lost google traffic. And how do you guys achieve google rankings given your saturated market - to add to it google with its panda updates has made it really difficult even going for long tail keywords because if you overdo it you can easily end up penalised.

This all coming from a long term affiliate from a difficult position. You are not only competing with tons of other good quality sites but also with the wrath of google? I'm seeing things becoming very difficult and many likely won't survive?

95% of casino affiliates or affiliates in general never make enough money to collect a payment.

Google, Bing, Yahoo traffic is a bonus for me. I depend more on knowing my players personally. We chat daily, talk about casinos and bonuses or whatever.

Try putting a personal touch on it or find your own way and it may work for you.

If it was easy everyone would be making a million :)

well that's not a sustainable business model for me although I'm happy it works for you. I'm referring to the big poker sites - even they must be finding it difficult - how are they getting traffic if google is making it hard to get discovered in the first place.

In my case - Blind luck! I like random :)
I have never even attempted to do any SEO and have not the faintest idea what a Google Penguin is.
Thing is, I know there are 100's or 1000's of experts out there - trying to compete against them would be like me trying to make the final of the mens 100 metres at the Olympics!
So I don't try and I don't worry about it (or much else to be honest!)

No one is crazy enough to put in 2 full time jobs worth of work while having no promises at all. Its sort of ironic... promoting online gambling is in fact an even bigger gamble then online gambling itself.

I have said this before to new affiliates and I'm sure it applies to the large Poker sites as well. It mostly comes down to determination, relentlessness, and outsmarting your running mates. Keep in mind that the more people that give up, the more spaces there are for you to move up.

trust me, the competition and work load in the gambling industry is nothing compared to my retail sites, that industry and what the fickle princess had done to it.

You just have to find a way to be unique. As I have said before.. Its a numbers game.. If you create enough quality content, your bound to come up sooner or later for something. I have a full 4 years of writing content in the serps now.. When Google shuffles around and updates and I drop for some things, I come up for others. For an affiliate just starting out, my advice is, really try to be unique.. Millions of people search for things thousands of different ways, not everything has yet been invented :)

Fairly simple for me, I don't compete and I'am not interested in competing or knocking fellow affiliates out of any serps etc. I have never compared my site to another affiliates, sure I look at them and maybe get a little jealous sometimes.

I started this as a hobby and just for my own pure enjoyment. I just write content and throw it up, if people like it they like if not so be it, same goes for Google. If I ever stop, it won't be because someone is "better" than me or because I make no money at all, it will because I have stopped enjoying what I do.

I do like the extra income all be it small trickles here and there and would like more but I am not going to stress over it.
