How many people do you employ?

This post isnt about bragging rights.

I employ zero my sites dont even make enough to employ me full time but how many if any do you need to keep things running well?

It's just me and the missus, and I don't do anywhere near enough outsourcing. In reality, we should be employing a couple of people but I'm a control freak and if it isn't someone I trust completely, I don't want to tell them anything. And I also don't want the responsibility of having to do things 'properly' and be in an office at 9am to open up and let them in. I employed someone in the UK and the paperwork was a bloody nightmare, paying their NI and everything..... sod that.

I want to add, in a big-headed way, I think we work hard enough for ten people.

I am with you here, most of my work is done by me or my partner. I have however outsourced some articles from content writers when a month has been ok to get something new, fresh and unique.

I do not think I would ever employ anyone no matter how much I made, not because of greed but the trouble would not be worth it.

Exactly my sentiments!
I am very particular about how I want things done - so if I did employ someone else I just know I would have to go though all their work to check it carefully and would probably end up changing things - so I might as well do it myself in the first place.

No employees but I do outsource a lot of things. Although as the others have said, with outsourcing things often don't get done as you want them to.

I'd like to hire someone properly - think it'd help the business grow at a much faster rate, but all the paperwork just sounds like a pain in the ass. I'll deal with that next year, probably...

Over the last few months, we have been investigating using the idea of using a 'virtual PA'. There are loads of these services out there, with varying service and pricing structures and they appear to be a viable option for a whole host of different jobs. It started off with the idea of getting someone to do our bet365 invoices every month and it grew from there. We've got sidetracked with an enormous update of casinobeacon (nearly live!) and so we haven't actually settled on a virtual PA yet, but it's definitely something I want to consider taking on.

We have 10 people physically working out of our office + 5 dedicated 100% outsourced personell selling us all their time + a dozen freelancers contributing as needed.

It all started with us needing a full time in house designer, then we knew how to do contracts and all the difficult stuff, and we just have grown. All the points you guys make are valid. BUT, even though you lose a little bit of your own perfectionism with hired staff, there is a limit to what one person can do alone.

Sure you lose some efficiency when you grow, we felt we either try to make a proper go of it, or sit back and get overtaken by the bigger guys.

I have outsourced a TON of development both at AGD and on my personal websites. While it has *mostly* worked out at AGD, I expect I have lost about $25-30k in outsourcing to the wrong people overall. Hiring the right people is KEY and once you find them, keep them.

I'd love to hire real employee's but like everyone else there is so much red-tape. Plus those who I want to work with me personally aren't actually available to have in the office. We probably have a dozen people working for us though.

For me, If you had a more website to maintain, its better to employ at least 1 or 2 employee but just like me, I'm a newbie on online marketing I think I can focus on it. I need to work on it and can figure it out what will be its development everyday. Hope It can help it to all.
