I just looked up this Browser Statistics according to w3schools in 2012:
15%-20% used IE
31%-37% firefox
35%-46% chrome

then a few % for the others.

I myself thought more then that used IE, but I guess this would be correct.. I would say its still to large a number to ignore.

IE is garbage since they moved the favorite buttons from left to right.

As far as the user percentage of browsers goes, this varies in each country. Chrome is generally getting more and more popular though.

I had no idea Chrome was so popular -- very interesting.

I just noticed the other day that Chrome visitors had taken over FF in my stats.
my stats data do not reflect W3 at all.

I can't get used to Chrome, (is there any way to have the location bar pull down the recently browses sites?)

IE is brutally slow, since yahoo decided to serve massive amounts of ads in the email client using IE takes forever to serve those ads, with ff they appear quickly.

As far as websites go, develop/layout with FF as they're the most css compliant, not sure about Chrome pretty good to I think.

IE 8 and < 8 handles css padding and margins differently that the other browsers, not sure about IE9. content laid out with IE can be messed up in FF due to the padding and margins. I would imagine that any development software takes care of this problem automatically.

another drawback to Microsoft is having multiple version of IE installed, can't be done like standalone browsers like FF/Chrome.

IE 8 and previous versions does have a great debugger built in, view a site and just hit F12. Not sure about IE9. I guess its still there.
Great for debugging javascript as you can single step through each instruction. You can also run a links report for all the links on a page and the images tab has some useful stuff webmasters should check out.

Still here on IE10!

I've just always used IE as my main browser, I have chrome and FF installed for backups and testing.. I agree chrome is most likely a better browser, I'm just used to the way I have IE set up I guess... maybe its time to upgrade.

These numbers are skewed by the audience of W3 Schools, which would include a significant proportion of web developers and coders. That audience doesn't use IE much.

Here is a useful comparison from various sources.
Usage share of web browsers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That said, looking at data from other sites is almost pointless. The only way to reliably work out which browsers your visitors are using is to look at the stats for your own site.
