Keep an eye on changing pages

Google just launched a nice feature on Google Reader: the ability to keep an eye on pages for changes. This works even if the page doesn’t have its own RSS feed. This sort of thing is very handy. You could use it to spot new things on a privacy policy page or watch for changes in the executives page at another search engine.

Yes, I have used that a little, but there are definitely drawbacks to it.

If a page like a T&C Contract document changes very little (like once every 6 months), Google is not going to spider that page all the time (or even very often).

Because of that, you may not get the changes for quite awhile.

AGD spider, because we have a limited scope, traverses the pages daily. This makes the alerts much more topical and current.

As a test, 5 days ago, I set the Google Reader to subscribe to several of my own websites. I changed the homepage on each of them and still have not been alerted. I'm sure it will pick up the change eventually, but that is a pretty long time, IMO.
