We interviewed Julian Lam from NodeBB.org which develops forum software.

The forum software market is crowded but there are newer softwares which have an advantage on the existing companies like vBulletin, phpbb and myBB for example. Aside from having a modern design, newer softwares get to take advantage of the latest advancements in programming languages and databases.

With NodeBB you get a software that uses Node.js programming and you can configure it with MongoDB or Redis with the end result being the fastest loading forum possible.

Also the price is relatively expensive if you want them to host the forum for you but if you want it for free like wordpress, just download it and install on your server.

I'm not a big fan of that style of forum at all. Maybe that's just me, but I have never liked those types of forums. (the way they look/feel and are organized)

Yes me too, had a look and really don't like it.
Does not look like a forum to me. But who knows, this may be the future and soon all forums will look so.
