odesk.com has anyone used this place for outsourcing work? I have a friend that wants to build a site on WP all the way up to where all he needs to do is login and maintain it himself.. blog daily etc. I would perfer a word of mouth recommendation but someone also pointed me to this site has anyone ever used it?

Yeah I used it for a while last year.. For me it was more a waste of time. Its hard to find people that can do quality work the way you want it. I found it to take so much of my time sorting through people and trying different people out that I could have just paid a premium price for quality work and be done with it.

I was searching for a writer, maybe you could have better luck finding someone to do other work.

What do you mean by build a site all the way up? You just mean install wordpress and have a theme made for it? That I'm sure would be easy to find.

Freelancer.com swallowed up a couple of big ones... Scriptlance and another (maybe elance?). That's the best place I have found.

I'm suspicious of the freelancing sites for a number of reasons:

1. I regularly get emails from people asking if I'd recommend 'insertusernamehere' - turns out one of my mainstream websites is being used in someones portfolio when they had nothing to do with it. Has happened with more than one user so it looks like the portfolios of a lot of freelancers is all lies (that was elance btw).

2. More than once I've ordered content which has ended up being re-outsourced to someone cheaper. Ie: They do a test article that's decent quality, then I say lets do 10 more and they turn to shit. Which then causes headaches when you start complaining. That was on freelancer and has happened more than once.

As you said, I now always look for personal recommendations from people. There's a guy on PAL offering this kind of service though who I've used for a couple of things before (content mainly) that might be worth investigating. Let me know if you want me to PM you the link to his thread.

I'm registered at odesk, elance and 99designs.com and like the feedback mentioned here, it would take awhile to find the 'quality' folks like myself to hire so it's a good option, but a shot in the dark.

I may be able to help your friend depending on what he wants, as I do web design & application development, so if you would like me to consult with him then let me know.

This is his site now it is a mess and maintained by someone in the Netherlands that just is not around enough so I suggested he get on WP so he can make the updates and changes himself. He just does not have the time to build the site design a logo etc, so basically he would need the site built from ground up. He can take care of the contant and blogging once it is live. Thanks for all the input & advise! Gamtrak can you give me a few referrals for your work? You can send to my email I think you have it on file :)

He for sure does not have the time to weed through a bunch of freelancers!

Thanks much! To see my latest work you can view my page here as I try to put the stuff I like there when I finish it - https://www.facebook.com/GamTrakWebsiteDesign?ref=hl I also converted 5 sites for topboss a couple years back from html to include css - Portfolio Page 1

I can do a design for him no problem as well as create a logo. I'll send you my contact info via PM here.

Thanks again. :)

I pretty much user freelancer only.

There are some people from particular Asian countries i avoid (sorry for the generalisation... but after 4-5 failed projects with different people/companies from those countries)... and then there some countries I will only hire certain skill sets from.

PM me :)

PeoplePerHour.com seems pretty good, they mainly have UK based workers so the costs per project/hour are obviously going to be higher but they always understand the work better than their cheaper counterparts which is very useful when trying to find workers in the gambling industry
