Privacy Policies

What will all these changes coming in around cookie legislation, how important is it for sites to have a privacy policy linked to from the home page? And if it is important, what should be included in there? Can anyone point me int he direction of a good one?

Not sure how important it is to have one, but I used freeprivacypolicy dot com to generate one for me. It may not be unique, but it was quick and easy.
