Recently the company (whoever that is!) who controls online domains decided they want some more CASH and so introduced the new .co extension.
These cost at least TWICE what the old .com etc ones did.

I've registered a few, but what do others think about this; are you going down this road?

Please post any opinions below, like whether this will "catch on" with the general web-browsing public...

I don't necessarily think it will 'catch on', but since the value of domains is highly tied towards the keywords in the domain name - I think they can be valuable if you choose the right names.

To pay double the cost.... it's ridiculous, but if you grabbed: slots.co. Maybe it would sell for a large pricetag like slots.com did?

But, in reality, because slots.com is more type-in.. it probably wouldn't be quite as huge a seller. But: onlinecasinos.co would be huge.

I purchased a few. I think the value will be limited to the keywordphrases in the domain name and the almost insignificant typos that generate traffic.

I was going to mention typos..

slots.co would be perfect for typos.. how many times do you type google.co or google.cmo or google.ocm just as an example.

I wasn't going to, but then Google announced they would give them TLD status which means that they will be able to rank in google.com, something that would be very difficult if they had remained as a ccTLD. So yes, I'm in now :)

Sorry I don't get it..a .com costs what, $10US...so you pay $20US for a .co, so what...

I remember when NetworkSolutions used to control this market and I used to pay $170US for 2 years on a .com

Personally it should have stayed like that.
I doubt we'd have the spam issues or be dealing with the # of scum bag scrappers, if it didn't change to cheap domains.

Cheers

It does matter when you buy a lot of domains and have to renew them yearly.

Agreed Andy....

And Dave, I am not sure why you ever paid that much for a .com, even when Network Solutions had such a stranglehold on the market, they only charged $35 per year....

They are still paid $6 per name per year. (.com and .net)

I picked up ukpoker . co Was very surprised to get it.

I also picked up affiliatepartners . co

Not sure what type of site I should do with that, maybe a sub affiliate site reviewing the affiliate programs?

Or someone with a lot money will offer me some good cash for it, I think its a great name :D one can only hope......
