To Date or not to date? I've had this question in my head for along time, and haven't found an answer. my blog is run on wordpress which dates all my posts and pages. I found a plugin that removes the date from my posts. is it better, to have the dates posted for SEO? dose Google care. will it help or hurt my site. or it doesn't make any difference. inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks!

I think you should leave the dates on your website. I believe that Google can read dates now, and if it's better for your SEO to show them (especially if you create new pages and new posts on a regular basis). You want Google to notice that your website is constantly updated, so the dates will help with this :)

Does this plugin allow you to choose whether to display dates on a per post basis? That would be really useful.

After all, if you've got a casino review you wrote two years ago, you don't want the date to display. Otherwise people might think that it is out of date when it isn't.

On the other hand, if you've got a brand new promotion or tournament to talk about, you want people to see the date so they know this is current information and they need to act on it.

My answer is 'it depends' :) Like Tryme said above, if it is a casino review, you don't really need (or want) a date. But, I would put that in it's own category with a specific-theme for that category instead. (i.e., make a category page for your Casino Reviews that looks more like a typical website). For the rest of your content, I see no problems with timestamps.

Either way, Google won't care. The search engines know when the content went live, you are pinging (most likely, unless you turned that off) which will let the bots know there is new content.

I will leave the dates posted especially if your posts have content like latest bonus offer which are offered for specific time frame. For example if you check google adwords keyword tool you can notice that people are searching for terms like "no deposit casino bonus august 2012" and similiar. I am sure it can't hurt your SERP.

I think it would look weird to read a blog and not see any dates. If I didn't see any dates, I would personally be wondering "where are the dates, and when was this article written?"

Hi,

I agree it dose look weird. The problem is I have static pages, which I think look bad dated 2 years ago. I could periodically update the post or page with a "newer" date, but I'm thinking Google won't like that move. with the date plug in I can't individually select to show the date post or not. I'm still looking for that plugin : (
