Gratz and looking really good to
What software will the new forum use?
xenForo is the platform. These are some of the guys who developed vBulletin before it was purchased many years ago.
You'll love XenForo. I switched my BlackjackTournaments.com site over a few months back. XF is a joy to use, as an admin and a user.
Yes, I did a fair amount of development to integrate an event calendar and casino list into the forum software. There's a learning curve of course (isn't there always!), but once you get the hang of it, the structure is really quite impressive.most of the vB developers have already migrated over to xF because it's framework is highly superior. I'm pretty excited to move. It will be nice to be able to load the latest php without having to mod the whole forum structure (like we had to do for vB).
I am looking at different forum software with an idea I have to implement it into my site for a specific task in about 6 months and with a quick look at xenForo I don't like that you have to pay an extra $50 for the 'enhanced search'. Something like that should be included in the purchase price in my opinion.
With IP Board I really dislike having to pay an annual renewal fee.
Which leaves vBulletin and all I hear about the new version is complaints.
Looking forward to seeing how xenForo works on this forum.
Whether IP Board, XenForo, or vBulletin, you should plan on paying for ongoing updates and patches. It may not be the same as IPB's annual renewal, but you will likely have an annual cost of some sort. With IP Board I really dislike having to pay an annual renewal fee.
Good luck with launch. It looks great and I hope all goes well with no 'oops-i've-just-lost-all-the-data...and-the-members-database' type moments.
