I don't visit CAP so no skin off my ass either... but if history wasn't important, we wouldn't have it in books or would it be part of school curriculum. History in this case, hopefully stops us all making the same bad calls (no pun intended) ;)

I liked Lou, he treated me well, took the time to show me the ropes when I first started.
He would post that big cabbage, remember that?

Can't recall the big cabbage... but I can say, the old Lou, just like The Captain (RIP) and others of that circa were all very helpful and decent folk. I suppose it was like that cause we were ALL in a very tight and small community, back then.

I use Casinomeister for the player and AGD for the affiliate. Both are top notch sites ;) Wish I didn't spend so much time on these sites though hehe  Nice website you have by the way BetOnlineUK. Looks very good and some good stuff on there. But is there not bit of a problem with the domain name looking at already sportsbook Betonline.ag? :)

This thread is a stroll down memory lane. I remember the early days of the GPWA when Cindy ran it
and there were only a handful of affiliates. I was active over there, but not so much anymore. I actually
found an old file with link partners that we had in the early days, and it is surprising at how many of
the sites that were doing so well back then.. are no longer online, or they haven't been updated in ages.

I became a private member in 2001. I was known as GamblersLodge back then (ended up selling gamblerslodge.com to BigFish). SlyCin (that site she had VideoPokerJunkies.com - that thing must have yanking in some bucks), she ran a tight ship. If any aff program did 1/8 of what they do these days, their sponsorship would be pulled and they'd be blacklisted... Yes the good old days :)

Yeah, Lou was a good guy for the most part. I only had the one run-in with him. I was more at CAP than at GPWA. They were the 'good ole days' of traffic and money for sure. I put up a site, didn't get players, then let it sit for 6 months before I relized I got a whopper of a player. Then I got serious :) Everyone else who tried a bit harder than me back then was making serious cash. I don't think Lou cared as much for blacklisting programs GPWA might have (according to @AussieDave above) - but he ran a good forum and had some really good moderators back then.

I had a lot of questions in those days! And I was, of course, not 'Guard Dog' back then either. I was kwblue.

So what are you using to protect your site (or more to the point, not)?
I currently use Wordfence and run through CloudFlare which I believe has some firewall to it. I have just signed up to Sucuri to get it sorted

Wordfence, like so many other WP security plugins is like wearing a condom, with a pin-prick in it. CloudFlare (errr crimeflare), I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. While it's supposed to protect sites from script kiddies, hacks, bad bots and other dubious & malicous shite, I'm not sold on it. Seems more sites become susptable to being hacked. Or maybe it just because this CDN is favoured by internet criminals.

Sucuri is great but tbh, you don't need such things if you take care of some basic hardening of Wordpress. The object is to make your site hard to hack.

No site connected to the WWW is unhackable. What you want is for script kiddies etc., to try, give up and look for a softer target ;)

Securi is good - but it has missed things here at AGD :( I had an email script uploaded not so long ago and was used as a relay server for spam. Securi didn't catch it :(

Being not so technically savvy, i bow down to web masters with more experience. I am changing hosting to a more secure server and the guy knows a thing or two about security. It might cost me a bit more but hopefully it will stop it getting hacked. It's the cleanup in Google that really pisses me off!!!

That's why I'd rather place my trust, in myself and tweak both WP, the DB and especially my htaccess file. I find above anything else, if these basic hardening techniques are used, it keeps the shite out.

If you need some links to some info/help on how to do this, just send me a PM BetOnlineUK and I'll point you in the right direction. I also have posted lots of htaccess code here on AGD to help secure WP sites ;)

Hi AussieDave,
Thats much appreciated, the site got cleaned and then for some reason a few hours later the htaccess file went missing so I could not see any internal pages. That ever happened to you or anyone.

Sounds like someone has gained (hacked) access to your hosting account. Either that or there's a backdoor someplace. Does Securi use a backup copy to restore the site? Or does it does it clean the site against a fresh copy of WP? But it would still need a backup of your Database, where does it get that from, or doesn't it?

Hello, is this forum still active? I have an affiliate online casino, Online Casino List, and I’m wondering if you offer your services. My site is based in New Zealand.
