Reef Media, owned by XL Media had decided that they milked their affiliates sufficiently and can now continue to get paid from operators without sharing the revenue with their (former) partners. The moral of the story is, and take it from an affiliate with more than 16 years of experience: never do revshare deals without some kind of solid guarantee to be paid for the 'lifetime' of the players that you send. Sure, it's never a 100%, but much better than nothing. And negotiate good CPA deals if you can.
Here is the email I received:
As you may be aware XL Media agreed the sale of its European business to GDC in April of this year.
We are now further refining our business operations, and accordingly we are substantially scaling back our arrangements under the formerly run “Reef” platform. Unfortunately, this means that we no longer have the need for the continued engagement of a number of sub-affiliates, and we have taken the decision to inform a number of sub-affiliates of the ending of their business activity with XL Media under the “Reef” platform.
From our records we believe that you are contracting on XL Media’s standard terms for sub affiliates.
In accordance with our standard terms, we have the right to terminate the contract immediately.
Please note the relevant section of the standard terms as below:-
“Without derogating from the above, the Company may terminate this Agreement or any specific part of a Commission Schedule, with or without cause at any time, upon written notice to Sub-Affiliate sent by email to such email address provided to the Company. In the event Company terminates the Agreement as a whole, it shall be entitled to automatically remove and/or render any Link(s)s inoperative. For the avoidance of doubt, on termination of this Agreement the Sub-Affiliate will no longer receive any Commission. If the Company terminates/removes a specific Link(s), the Sub-Affiliate will no longer receive any Commission through that Link(s).”
In accordance with these standard terms, we hereby formally provide notice of termination. All links will be removed or made inoperative. No further commission is due payable.
Again, we re-iterate this termination is due to the changes necessitated by XL Media’s change in business operations and direction. We thank you for your continued support over the years and wish you continued success in your future business ventures.
If you have any queries or wish to write further to this matter all correspondence must be addressed to nick.fowkes@xlmedia.com
